I *really* wanted to make a greeting card option, but the print service I use only ships those from the UK and costs are prohibitive.

But if you buy either a poster or a print you'll get a hi-res download (5400 x 5400 px)

These look very delicate on white, but much more stained glass on (near) black:

Here's the same datasets, as snowflakes.

Here's my eBird lifelist and 2025 year list.

Bird friends! Data friends! Design friends!

I made a tool that turns lists of bird species into generative collages of feathers, colored by wikipedia descriptions.

It'll work with your eBird lifelist! Or local birds.

Download images, or buy art (5% goes to bird rescue)

This is very satisfying.

Snowflake graphics rendered from feathers, each representing a single species. Colors are from Wikipedia descriptions.

5% of proceeds from my Of A Feather project go to Wild Bird fund, NYC's only bird rescue and rehabilitation org.

Also I forgot to end discount code for you bluesky wierdos, so today you can still use ALFHOG for 25% off.

This is my favorite bookstore in NYC, McNally Jackson in Seaport.

It’s a gorgeous space with comfy reading spots and an excellent cafe.

Also, right now, one signed copy of Living in Data.

For example you might pick A for Annie Lennox and Ani di Franco, both solid examples of the category.

Let’s talk about the bins in my local record store that are labeled A -> Z

To me, this is such a sweet spot in music because it holds the bands that made a record good enough to get into the store, but aren’t big enough to get a label .

What letter are you picking, and why? From A to Z?

Because all y’all have been so supportive of my weird obsessive work:

This weekend you can use the code ALFHOG for 25% off anything in my store. 🪶📊🎨

This is not the baseball shirt I'm wearing in my profile pic, but it *could* be the baseball shirt you wear in your next profile pic.

400+ feathers colored from wikipedia descriptions of birds in the order Psittaciformes, which includes parrots, macaws, cockatoos...

By popular demand I've made a dark version of my Of A Feather visualization.

It's got a pretty great stained glass / album cover vibe.

10,151 birds colored by Wikipedia descriptions. Prints and posters ship everywhere, plastic-free:

If you’ve read my book you’ve seen this visualization I made from the telemetry data of every one of Alvin’s descents and ascents.

I'm sure this is just me querying the void but:

Does anyone know folks who are putting together gift guides for the holidays that might like my Of A Feather project?

One of my fave images I've made over the last few years, a collage of AI training images of yellow-billed and black-billed cuckoos.

New world warblers, all passerine birds (loses the snowflake effect!)

I had the idea to make snowflakes from my Of A Feather project.

It... didn't exactly work?

But I like the results.

They're maybe more wreath than snowflake??
