Not sure your premise is correct. There are certainly improvements but also many things that overall are worse or more difficult. (Except for the zillionaires.)

BBC News and 'current affairs' programmes like R4 Today are now unlistenable much of the time, full of hardline rightwing / racist propaganda dressed up as news or barely challenged comment. Made even worse by Tories' rightward lurch with awful stuff from Philp Jenrick etc.
