Empirical fact vs. normative interpretation - you state the former, but readers seem to always project/think you implied something about the latter. No matter how clear the writing is, distinguishing the two always seems to be a challenge!

Colgate University used to provide 50% of Colgate's tuition toward the tuition of the child of *any* faculty or staff member employed the university, to attend *any* college. We're talking like $30,000/year scholarship, effectively. No idea if they still do it, but what a signal of your value!

When the Alice Goffman kerfluffle happened, no one mentioned the scene in her book where a guy had a neighbor/nurse remove a bullet so he didn’t have to go to the hospital & risk running into cops. No one realized why that didn’t quite make sense, & how removing it likely was more dangerous than not
