Welp. I was hoping to participate in a bird walk hosted by the Baltimore bird club so I could write a travel story about wildlife at Fort McHenry tomorrow but #governmentshutdown.

We ran 7 miles from Rumbley to Frenchtown and back again this morning and at no time were we more than 4 feet above sea level, per Strava. Encountered about 100 feet of flooded road. Houses carved into the Delmarva saltmarsh. Beautiful and foreboding.

Maryland’s newest state park is poised to arrive in the last county without one. It will be called Wetipquin Creek State Park. I paddled there a few years ago. Winding, surprisingly strong tidal current. The old house is breathtaking.

Plenary speaker Rich Batiuk, formerly of EPA, encourages “we/them” thinking, looking for common threads. “Figure out what you can do to help that particular person” whether talking to a farmer or a member of Congress.
