There’s no excuse for this. We have way better standards, better developer tools and more information to avoid the current situation.
We’re shipping more and more and more JavaScript. And the problem is only going to get worse as most AI-generated web pages are built on JS frameworks.

If you are a developer you know this is bullsh!t. These companies will even choose to embarrass themselves instead of being compliant with law.
Meta was ordered by a a Dutch court to offer a non-algorithmic timeline option, and they just got an extension as they claimed they couldn't do it within 2 weeks for tech reasons.

As an engineer, it's fascinating to see the clever solutions the React team releases. As a web developer, it's funny how most of those solutions are to solve problems React itself created.

I cancelled my @repebble.com pre-order, I love all @ericmigi.com is doing, but more than three months delay in with so little amount of updates or news about the 2 Duo, felt bit of a diservice to early supporters in my opinion. Hope to be excited enough to try one in the future though.

This sounds cool, but i checked The Verge's actual coverage, and there's no mention of the only viable alternative: web apps.

No mention that Apple is consistently working overime to keep them hobbled and hard to find.
Big tech CEOs have spent more than a decade puffing their chests and saying that they are more like heads of state running global companies with bigger revenues than many countries

… but now they’re all folding to actual government pressure faster than any tinpot dictator has ever folded

When the dust settles, we will look back at these dark days, the violation to human rights, the corruption and the violence incited, and we will remember mostly those who sold their dignity and humanity just for compliance and bribery.

We failed at holding a lot of people accountable on our developer communities, we allowed white nationalists, extremists, and people who like to command but not to listen and learn to take a sit where decisions were made. I am a bit sad that it feels too late of a reaction.

Folks, what’s the best alternative to Buttondown? I wanted to support them and gave then a chance but a lot of subscribers don’t receive my emails or they fall into spam. Pretty unsustainable at this point.

Interviewing C-level people is waste of time, both for journalists and for us. They detour on questions, or just basically lie to your face. In May, while being interviewed by @reckless.bsky.social for Decoder, Sundar Pichai answered this when asked if AI was causing a decline on visits.

TIL a GoFundMe widget adds an *entire NextJS app* to the page.

About 5MB of JavaScript—spread across almost 40 files—just to render a few lines of text and a link.

(Yes, the widget has to make an API call to show the campaign's progress. But even given that, it's still absurdly over-engineered.)
