Only in the sense I’m fortunate to own my own home. Which has become a stupidly appreciating asset because we don’t build enough housing to satisfy demand in places people need/want to live.

No. Housing is expensive because we don’t build enough of it. Perpetuating this myth that lack of housing is caused by Wall Street or billionaires buying up supply just gives politicians an excuse not to build more housing and actually solving the problem.

And covid accelerated this. We still go see some films in theatres but most we just prefer to watch at home becuase it's easier and frankly preferable for films that aren't 'improved' by the theatrical experience.

His face betrays some regret he didn't do the same with Nixon a few months earlier.

I always thought vehicle registration fees should be tied to weight with a phased out discount for EVs under a certain weight

Do you think he'd test it out on a special or off year election? NY Mayor or NJ Governor first?

I'm exceptionally proud of it and really hope that this can be just temporary...but also OK to do without it until something similar becomes the standard across all states.

I wish we didn’t have to do this in response to the GOP Texas and other gerrymanders, but it’s the right thing to do now. Hope one day all Americans in every state can have fair districts like CA had, until then YES ON 50!

Voting as soon as you get your ballot lets campaigners mark you as voted and not waste time contacting you to vote.

Great, now sign SB 79 so all these new workers and those who support them in the jobs they create can afford to actually live in California!

Haha! The New Yorker is the only publication I refuse to give up reading in hard copy. I just don't think it works reading it digitally. Plus I'd miss random advertisements for important things like alpaca hats and old age homes in New Hampshire.

Not that it would ever happen, but would be a strong argument in favor of a Westminster style system with the ability to call a general election at a high point to maintain policy progress.

In the future Trump's portrait can be blacked out like the Venetian Republic's coup attempting traitorous Doge...

I don’t think agree with their retrospective analysis that failure was free trade. Many of those jobs were going to go anyway because of automation. The real failure was not fulfilling promises to take care of these workers with retraining and social support when the inevitable came.

If accurate, that’s an impressive amount of voters who distinguish between a nice policy and the reality of implementation.

Which I should add is something to keep in mind for those involved in thinking about post-conflict Gaza administration.
