A new species for me spotted off the docks in Tacoma, WA: Micronereis nanaimoensis. This female had a BUNCH of males hooked into her back end to stimulate her to lay eggs😱It was SO cool to see! #wormwednesday

Sometimes I have a hard time remembering the scientific names of things. I always think of this tunicate as the Chloë Sevigny (Ciona savignyi).

Much to my delight, I read that the Northern Horse Mussel is referred to as the “clappy-doo” mussel in some parts of the world.

It also has a fun to say scientific name, Modiolus modiolus.

The red-eyed medusa, Polyorchis pencillatus, depends on the health of our nearshore eelgrass habitats. When eelgrass habitat declines, so does the population of these beautiful jellies. #invertebrates

I wish I had the body flexibility of a giant /rainbow nudibranch! Have you ever watched them swim? They have some serious moves💓Dendronotus iris , spotted off the dock on Vashon Island last week.

Hammerhead doto nudibranchs look like delicious, tiny candies💓 There is a spot on Vashon Island here in WA where they thrive and it seems like they are there all year round. In the third image here, you can see one in the process of laying eggs. #nudibranchs #invertebrates
