This big guy lives at Black Creek Village. He was methodically stalking the small guy along the fence. It was never more clear to me why the German etymology for #turkey is "threatening rooster".

Enchanted forest is kinda my general #Christmas vibe. Mini-me 1.0 helped get the star up into the tree while 2.0 stared up at his big bro in wonder as per usual.

Mini-me 1.0 is beyond smitten with Sparkle Daddy Deer. The first year we had him, he remained up until April when I finally declared the Easter Bunny wouldn't come if our yard still looked like winter. Mini-me 2.0 already looks at his brother like he hung the stars in the sky on a normal day, so when 1.0 was eager to hang the new decoration I was hoping to capture a sweet moment of brotherly love. Instead, the toddler promptly lost his balance trying to navigate snow while staring up and nearly went face first into a pile of bunny poo. Simultaneously, the eldest decided getting up to the very top of the metal ladder in snowy boots was an excellent and totally safe plan. So there is a picture... But I am definitely not winning awards for mother-of-the-year on the back of it 🤣

Chandeliers: I am obsessed.

I photograph them, I salvage old parts to make sculptures with, I hang the crystal droppers on my Christmas tree... Love them.

This one lives in the Musée Rodin and has gorgeous plaster work above it.

Detail shot of a decorative embellishment added to Cardiff Castle during the Gothic Revival renovation to the medieval castle in the mid 1800s. Wall coverings are in shades of burgundy with many gold details presumably because yellow is for peasants. A border separates two different burgundy patterns. Linear bands of olive green are at the top and bottom. An alternating pattern of blue and pink follows moving inward. At the centre, a blue and green bird is flapping its wings animatedly and calling back to a second blue bird with a pink head. They are standing on green ground with an entirely gold background because of course they are. Decorative mouldings forming the start of an arch on the wall are painted Tiffany blue and a coordinating softer grey-green that looks like it might be paint they had left from Fortnum and Mason. At the base, a man and a lion are engaged in battle. The literally golden-haired man is wielding a sword and shield, but only wearing underwear. The man is looking upwards, presumably regretting the choices leading to this moment. Meanwhile, the 100% gold lion has a clawed paw splayed across the underdressed belly of the man. The lion is grimacing at the prospect of getting guts in the very lovely braid running through his mane. It was probably meant to be a halo, but the monkey who put it in was hanging the wrong way so instead it's a chinstrap. A brown vine/tree with green leaves is wrapped around both figures. It's unclear if they fell into the bush, or if the bush is of the enchanted sort and trying to break up the fight.

A macro shot of a hydrangea cluster which has begun to dry out. The underlying blue/purple tone can still be seen on some petals, but most are deepening into a rich pink shade. The driest ones have turned yellow-brown with one near the bottom middle of the frame looking especially crunchy. The deep green leaves are out of focus in the top right corner of the frame.

A photograph of the western wall of St Michael's Hospital shot from the Massey Hall passerelle. The lighting levels have been played with — particularly the black point and shadows — to bring the layering of windows into focus. Two rectangular art nouveau stained glass windows in tones of orange, cream, and light blue are reflected from the original 1890s exterior wall onto the glass addition. The glass enclosed walkway looks onto St Michael's Hospital and connects the Hall's front of house to the new lounges and backstage spaces added to the rear of the building. The warm colouration is a sharp contrast to the cool practicality of the hospital's lights. Even late into the evening, many of the hospital's floors remain brightly lit. In the middle at the left of the frame, one of the few darkened windows catches a tiny reflection of a pair of arched windows from the gallery level above the photographer. The harsh lighting of the hospital spills sharply through doors at the bottom right corner onto the street. There is a bright lamp in the bottom left of the frame. In the top right corner, interior lighting near the photographer is creating a bit of a soft halo.

A photograph of the spiraling interior ramp of Copenhagen's Rundetaarn (Round Tower). The pathway is constructed from interlocking brick in portrait orientation. (There's probably a better bricklaying word for that, but, alas, I am not a bricklayer.) The windows are pairs of long, narrow arches inside arched alcoves. An arch also runs inward from the wall between the windows to the centre of the tower. The walls have been parged with a warm white stucco (again, possibly the incorrect term). The space is old (17th century), but somehow still manages to have the minimalist structure and colouration one associates with modern Danish design.

A photograph of two Canadian geese beside The Serpentine in Hyde Park. They are shaking down the occupants of a bench for food. That the residents of the bench are also Canadian means nothing to the Cobra Chickens. A few gulls and pigeons meander by pretending they aren't forming a queue. They know full well that once the bosses have had their fill, any crumbs are theirs for the taking. And if there's one thing Brits might like more than queuing for premade sandwiches, it's a nice, orderly hierarchy.

A grey heron with its neck tucked down tightly struts through the sand and round stones of the London Zoo Penguin enclosure. It may be able to hide its neck, but the long legs are a bit of a give away that it is not, in fact, a penguin.

A pair of acrylic pour paintings on canvas side by side. They are 10" x 14" each if I'm remembering correctly. The painting on the left is largely monochromatic tones of blue with a few hints of green peeking through in some spots. In contrast, the painting on the right is very colourful. There are several dominant sections of purple and pink tones, and a few smaller segments which echo the blues of the painting on the left. Accents of yellow which are florescent in places, and splashes of metallic copper and gold are scattered throughout. Although they were not poured side by side, there are a few spots in the center where the paintings touch that the shapes of the pour appear to flow into each other and across the two canvases. These were gifted to a dear friend with whom I had a running joke about the most adventurous colour choice she ever made with her wardrobe was a bit of blue. On the other hand, rarely have I encountered a colour or pattern I didn't want to at least try out.

White berries in the top left and bottom right of the frame are characteristic of this bush. The thinner stems of the plant are a flashy red tone and tend to stay this way throughout the winter months long after the leaves have fallen and the monarchs have migrated south.

A photograph of the wall and most of The Tower of London. The grassy expanse of the moat is filled with thousands of ceramic poppies. "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red" by ceramicist Paul Cummins and stage designer Tom Piper. Installed at The Tower of London in 2014, the moat was filled with 888,246 individually crafted ceramic poppies — one for each British and Colonial service member fatality in WW1. The title of the installation was taken from the first line of a poem found within the will of an unknown soldier. A floral bouquet in warm tones is arranged in a hollowed out pumpkin. It's sitting on a white tablecloth. The arrangement is a little bit of a neighbourhood snapshot plus a dose of teamwork. Pumpkin from the local fruit and veggie market/convenience store; roses and chrysanthemums from the new florist that replaced the cheese shop; hydrangeas, curly willow branches, and Japanese maple from my yard. Cheated a bit with some sunflowers from Costco. Picture taken by @mat416.bsky.social when he so kindly delivered them to the school at 7am. Edits by me since the staff room lighting is hella unflattering.

Until recently, I didn't realise robins in North America were entirely different birds to those in Europe. I thought the UK just had a strange socially agreed upon stylization of odd little chubby robins for Christmas 😬
