This is a first. Usually host and president are the same country. The only exceptions are Fiji /Bonn (2017) and Chile /Madrid (2019) but for very different reasons.

So sadly true!

This sounds exactly like last year.

Yes, this is a common approach.

I tend to start somewhere different: ending fossil fuel subsidies. Taxpayers pay oil and gas companies. If these industries were truly profitable, why is that necessary?

It would put renewables on a more equal footing.

Anytime! Happy to chat. You're doing great work there

Fossil fuel lobbyists act as watchdogs at COPs.

But all climate action happens at the national level. That's where we should be looking.

It's an equity issue - who's space are they taking?

COPs have become so big that they price out the people we need to hear from the most

The UN climate talks have become too big for their own good
Cop30 will have 50,000 delegates. But bigger Cops are not better Cops.

Protests have been allowed in the past, inside and outside tje venue. Inside is admittedly tame and tightly controlled.
I was at the 2012 march in Doha - the first ever such event allowed in Qatar, I believe

I tend to read all statements at the UNFCCC in the context of national interest (disclaimer: I'm an ENB writer).
The EU can acknowledge concerns, but that doesn't mean dismantling CBAM.
November 14, 2025 at 5:54 PM
I'm not sure i read that as strong agreement. The EU is asserting sovereign rights, in this case on its UTMs, which LMDCs don't like.
But, maybe there's been changes since China and others have ramped up tariffs

What can Belem do? The EU might announce it's NDC.
There is nothing on the negotiating agendas related to closing this gap.
November 10, 2025 at 6:27 PM
A lot. I've heard COP called the new Davos

ENB will have a what to expect video. The formal agendas will show how little there is in the interstate process.
October 25, 2025 at 12:05 AM
Well, I'm always partial to the ENB analyses.

What are you looking for?
