When I first found this on a now-deleted blogspot 12-13 years ago, already knowing the ultimate lyrics, I was most taken by how it illuminated TS's songwriting skill: how he'd met the challenge of distilling so much history and admiration into four verses and a chorus.

Examples, for verses 1 & 4:
"Skip never forgot to tell women how pretty they were and he honestly thought all of them were pretty... he was one of those guys from the movies... he drove a long black beat up cadillac with no plates and no driver's license... he always had pot in the trunk and he always sped and when pulled into a bar he literally parked on the side walk right up to the door where you had to sidestep his car to get in... but the owners never minded because they all new that the site of that car meant there bar would soon be full of musicians and girls... its just the truth... ask anyone around here. Everytime skip entered a bar with music playing he'd yell play a fucking train song til he got one" As I entered the house the lady on the phone was saying they we're almost there and that they just wanted to keep us on the phone. Just as I was hearing that I saw skip Like I had seen him many times before On his sofa with his hands under his head like a pillow The lady asked if we thought we could help him "maybe?" I said She said put him on the floor... but as Sam and I went to lift him... We touched him and we knew... We both started crying. ...we knew. For sure. We knew. In the same second I noticed his face. It had a smile on it. He died laughing..."

I love the subtle incorporation of red in both uniforms. Hadn't thought of it before this series, but I wonder if the Jay's design was a conscious homage to the Dodgers' unis. Why else put the logo there?

He was openly contemptuous of students and faculty while driving the University of Chicago into the ground:

But the university did not intend to give students after 2017 the same education that students had received in the past. Instead, the then-provost of the University of Chicago, Daniel Diermeier—now Chancellor of Vanderbilt University—told the university's trustees that if one held the numbers of tenure-stream faculty constant, “the marginal cost of adding these students would be fairly minimal.” He estimated that increased cost at 10 to 20 percent. In other words, if we deliberately changed the way we teach—but did not tell the students we were doing this—we could skim off at worst 80 percent of their tuition for purposes other than their education, and ideally as much as 90 percent. The reason today’s Dean of Humanities wants to send students to other universities to learn subjects that she would like to cancel, or use ChatGPT to teach subjects tomorrow that humans teach today, is to drive the “marginal cost” of teaching students from 20 percent of their tuition down to 10 percent.

tactile paving is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to alert visually impaired people (who are allowed to walk on sidewalks and cross streets) that they are entering a roadway.

This is about 75% cycle track/greenway. Resolving the last mile problem once you cross under the interstate on McGavock would depend on what gates are open and what pursuit vehicles are available to the first people to spot you going through them.
