I met Historic England in Parliament to mark the launch of this year’s Heritage at Risk Register and learn about how we can work with communities to save ‘at risk’ places – including the four churches in Manchester Withington on the register.

Parliament’s annual Evidence Week brings together the public, researchers, and MPs to discuss how evidence is used and scrutinised at Westminster. It was good to meet leading researchers and scientists, covering issues on the environment and net zero, health, AI and innovation.

As COP30 continues, cutting emissions from transport is essential. Nationally, public EV chargepoints have increased 23% in a year, and the Government is investing £2.5bn to expand low-emission public transport and support greener travel choices.

🏘️ In Manchester Withington, Southway Housing’s Arrowfield retrofit project has upgraded 400 homes to cut energy use and lower bills for residents — a great example of local climate action in practice.

🎒 As part of plans to install solar panels in more than 250 schools nationwide, Ladybarn Primary School here in Manchester is set to benefit. I raised the project in Parliament recently, and look forward to seeing the savings go back into teaching.

That change is already happening in Manchester.

At Withington Hospital, solar panels and heat pumps are being installed on the new Community Diagnostic Centre — helping cut NHS energy bills and emissions. ☀️

Saturday was the official ‘opening’ by the Lord Mayor of the new artwork at Mauldeth Road station. A fantastic design by Caroline Coates, celebrating local wildlife including flora and fauna from the parks in Ladybarn.

Always an honour to take part in our local Remembrance services - at Southern Cemetery and the Cenotaph at the weekend.

I also planted Manchester Withington’s stake in the Parliament memorial garden — honouring those who served, sacrificed, and lost their lives in conflict.
