The more experience I gain in interviewing, the more I worry about accidentally weeding good people out, rather than accidentally hiring someone bad.
Exactly this.

One problem with the Viable System Model is that every article has to use 80% of its word budget to re-explain it, badly. Language like “system 3*” and “algedonic” creates a low r0 meme-deficiency. Is the lack of accessible pedagogy a fundamental property of the VSM or can it be overcome?

Ignoble research idea: What percentage of business articles contain a variation of the phrase "In today's changing environment?" Key aspects: (1) Now (2) The World (3) Changes. How has the use of this phrase changed over time? Hypothesis: use is constant over time.

I was reading an article and tripped on a sentence that suggested that a "detrimental VP" should observe, but not participate when invited to a team meeting. Upon re-reading, I realized the author actually wrote "departmental VP." 🙄🤷♂️

"I don't like wine. When I do drink wine, I'm going to buy the cheapest wine I can find. Ugh! This wine is terrible. I don't like wine."
The cycle of thinking I'm up against today. (And it is not about wine.)

The most complimented dish of this year's Thanksgiving was just an easy last minute filler dish. 3 shallots, chopped, sautéed, 24 oz frozen peas heated with a little bit of broth. Finished with salt, pepper, butter and a generous amount of fresh chopped mint. 🤷♂️

My autumnal fruits in sauternes gelee had the kinetic effect I was looking for and was certainly the most discussed dish of this year's Thanksgiving.

Pre-holiday hosting cleaning. Nothing like a time box with a hard deadline for clarifying priorities and facilitating coordination. The sprint review is going to be delicious.

Planned it out today to make an old school looking gelatin mold for Thanksgiving, but an updated taste. Instead of fruit cocktail in Jello, I'm going with autumnal fruits (apple, pear, persimmon and pomegranate) in a sauternes and apple juice gelatin. No chance to practice. Hope it turns out. 🤞

The person I've been helping with burnout thanked me last night and told me I was helping. He said the most helpful was helping him recognize that he was burned out, showing him how it was affecting his relationships with people and reinforcing that it was not a personal failure.

Advice to someone dealing with burnout: Powering through the day is counterproductive. Take periodic restorative breaks to be more effective: Detach from work. Do something relaxing with a low activation level. Learn or master something new. Control your own time during your break. Helpful?

I'm excited to see things taking off for Bluesky. I exited "the other place" shortly after the takeover. But I did not exit to something else. Choose your forever server on Mastodon was a barrier for me and I've been happier FB free for years. So, high hopes to be here.
