The real poverty line should be around $140k for a family of 4.

Wow. I had forgotten that the "poverty line" was "calculated as three times the cost of a minimum food diet in 1963, adjusted for inflation.”

Of course, life is different in 2025 America with childcare, housing, and medical costs eating up a much larger portion of income.

A.

Though, in the biomedical sciences and epidemiology, outside of randomized trials, we generally do not preregister observational analyses. However, things get described as "main association,""exploratory," and the like.

Wait a minute, didn't you post that we should go into Pluribus not knowing anything about it?

Don't make me unfollow you...

I watched S1 of “Pluribus” without having read any reviews, etc, that gave away the premise or plot. If you can do that as well, I recommend it. It’s so much fun to be completely surprised, and so odd that we always make sure we aren’t.

As imortant, I -- we -- need to avoid the lazy temptation of dissmissing, or, worse, vilifiying those with alternate views.

They're just looking for control, comprehension, and community.

Like all of us.

"...such as,
“I think I heard that somewhere, too, but in my decades of practice, I’ve never seen it happen”;

“I vaccinated my kids as soon as I could and think it’s the best choice for your family, too”;

“If he were my dad, I’d tell him not to take that supplement anymore.”

I really like the advice to [avoid] "the language and epistemology of academic journals in favor of the common-sense speech of ordinary life..."

Overall, they had good results, with some backsliding, a reminder that we have to keep these interventions going!

Interesting they got pushback and changed up their peer comparison (I’ll be talking about this later…as well as posters).

They used Larissa May’s MITIGATE intervention that included education, posters, peer comparison, and tracking.

(Always satisfying to see our work 😊)

This study shows that working with talented people outside your own discipline (including the healthy skeptics of “nudging”) genuinely strengthens the quality and relevance of your research. Excited to see more work in this space! @jefflinder.bsky.social @wiserhealthcare.bsky.social

I love the bar at the far right of the left graph. What a prediction!

There's, of course, no WHY here. You pose a great thought.

Another is increasing the salience of the alternatives: "Oh, whoever is providing these choices really wants us to pick NSAIDs over opioids."

Or it's just a numbers game...
