BTC does not 'require' that much energy, it just attracts it. Moreover, it uses a lot of otherwise "stranded" energy and is a boon for renewables.

Run some independents in purple states for House & Senate seats. They can win! Imagine just 4 Senate Independents. They would be a powerful voting block in a fairly evenly divided Senate. A "common sense" caucus could temper both major parties.
