Maybe it gives us an extra year or two between coaching changes? Because "Sun Belt Billy" is going to be SCREAMED from the rooftops by his new fan base if another SEC team ever hires him after coming back to the conference with us. Maybe B1G fans do it too.

I just thought about it this way. Does it matter if everyone doesn't think Napier is a good P4 coach when we can't afford to pay someone at that level anyway? Billy might have a lowe ceiling but his floor is way higher than a guy coming up from FCS. Despite our recent hires, those guys could bomb

You asked the other day "why don't they pay the coach more" and I'm guessing they did here. They usually zig but this is a zag. He has a very high floor for expectations but a known ceiling that is not the tiptop. Does it matter what his highest level could be if we 100% could never afford a it?

Yea I can't process this yet. I am also interested in what we are paying him. And hear some backstory on how we took the exact opposite approach to hiring a coach than how we have the last 25 years.

It was a huge raise for Chesney coming from Holy Cross. It seems like the best they can pay is ~$1.5M, which isn't going to do much again Big 10 jobs that start at $5-6M.

Yea, the one thing that really annoys me is that this will keep happening very often unless we have a better TV deal. So to improve, we'd have to leave a conference that puts competition first (with great divisions) to go to somewhere that's an organizational mess.

Bob being so good right away does give me a less of the since of total dread we had when Cignetti left. I think the school/program can attract enough good players to keep us from being too bad at first. Hopefully Roan has a little talk with Bourne for some advice during the coaching search.
