I caught some waves at Pismo Beach tonight. This particular image happens when wind blows back into the ocean, the waves are lit from behind, and you go out to enjoy the evening. #sunsetphotography #naturephotography #getoutside #pismobeach

Sunset was just an accent in the show at Shell Beach, CA, yesterday.

Sunsets aren't always about the sun setting. I found this scene yesterday evening while enjoying a casual beach walk at dusk. #pismobeach #sunsetphotography

A LCSLO volunteer told me that rain last November might help flowers give us a good show at Pismo Preserve this year. But we're already starting to see blooms in this unseasonable warm spell. #pismobeach #flowers #naturephotography

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Three years ago today I visited the tide pools of Montaña de Oro State Park. My hiking group (wehike.org) still walks the bluffs trail here, although we're more likely to see deer and rabbits along the bluffs. #getoutside #sanluisobispo #oceanside #marinelife

I know guidelines can lead to a coherent visual family, but for a creative image editing app this sure feels like a step backwards. I remember when Adobe switched from distinct images to letters circa 2007. This also feels like “safe” snuffing out art. #pixelmatorpro

Jacob Frey: "Right now we have about 600 police officers, and they've got 3,000 or so ICE agents and Border Patrol. They're now talking about deploying 1,500 military? This is ridiculous, but we will not be intimidated by the actions of this federal government."

I'm testing a “slow shutter” app to prep for this Thursday's long exposure photo class. One of its modes captures long shots even in sunlight. I suspect that's overlaying images, but I've used it up to 60 seconds to capture night skies before. #longexposure #photography

Islay Hill is a local landmark, one of nine ancient volcano formations and a popular place to hike. I got this photo yesterday for my growing sticker collection. Speaking of which, the proofs came in. They look good but need editing. #sanluisobispo #sunset #naturephotography

I discovered that !Camera by @notboringsoftware and my infrared filter work well together. Sun angle and camera lens made a difference too. My iPhone 17 Pro’s wide lens was super noisy, while 1x had a center bright spot. Lots of post-processing to make these images work. #infrared #photography

Some of my favorite sunset photos study the sun’s last light, not just the sun. Yesterday I noticed these clouds exactly opposite the sun at low tide. For variety, I had brought my old Canon PowerShot — not the sharpest lens but fun to play with. Here’s the result. #getoutside #sunsetphotography

One of my creative projects requires natural colors, so I snapped pics of Obispo Tuff (compressed volcanic ash) at sunset. Some years ago I invented a process to make a harmonious palette based on analogous colors. After some tweaking, the result works well. #pismobeach #graphicdesign #artprocess
