Jazz programmer. Reader. Frequenter of cemeteries.
Two months after visiting Prague, I finally got round to reading this, which I bought while I was there....Read it in about twenty minutes. Might have another read over a pint sometime soon.

Recovering from the Jazz Promotion Network Conference in Cardiff. Great to catch up with people I only see once a year. 14 bands in two days and a lot of beer. Favourite gig was by Charlotte Keeffe.

Little box (right) inside big box. Should have ordered 20,000 business cards to make full use of the box and help save the environment...

Redundancies by the University of Nottingham have forced me out of Lakeside Arts after nearly 24 years. Here I am commiserating with some bearded ladies.

Read lots of Czech literature before I went to Prague and read but 3 more there. I read Nezval's A Prague Flâneur while sat under a photo of Nezval at Cafe Slavia. I went to the Smichov district to read Brabcova's Aviaries and then spent a couple of days in Žižkov reading Hodrova's City of Torment.

Just had a delivery from @jantarbooks.bsky.social in preparation for my first ever trip to Prague(and a bonus book for ordering directly from the publishers.)

Looking for suggestions of unusual things to do in Prague and things to avoid

Recent reads. After finishing The Fortress this morning it made me think: when my redundancy comes through from Nottingham Uni how will I cope without the library? I found a receipt inside The Fortress from the last person to take it out in 2017. Who will love the forgotten when I am forgotten?

A few months ago Brian Hanrahan recommended A Goat's Song by Dermot Healy. Now I'm recommending it to all of you.

Read this book.

@hanrahanistan.bsky.social Was it you who recommended A Goat's Sing by Dermot Healy a few months ago? It's brilliant...whether you recommended it or not.

Was it you @simonguy.bsky.social who recommended A Goat's Song a few months ago? Just finished it. A brilliant work...I was utterly washed up on the shores of the Mullet by the end.

Huge congratulations to Jeff Young for winning the TLS Ackerley Prize last night. Much deserved after decades of amazing work.

I've always loved The Soothsayer and wonder why it never gets mentioned. Maybe it's because it wasn't released until 1979 although recorded in 1965?

Haven't read anything by Nicola Barker before but this is a hilarious account of the repercussions of a heckle at an avant-garde jazz gig. The only thing she got wrong was that there was a sizeable crowd at the gig.
