#Poet Emily Dickinson was born #OTD in 1830.

She wrote ~1,800 poems & only 10 were published in her lifetime (& heavily edited by publishers to be "normal"). Unrecognized in her time, Dickinson was known later for her innovative use of form & syntax and influence on #poetry styles like free verse.
Rare daguerreotype of Emily Dickinson, taken around 1847 when she was about 16. The young poet gazes directly and unflinchingly at the camera, her dark hair center-parted and pulled back, wearing a dark dress with a white lace collar and a black ribbon tied at the throat. This is the only authenticated photograph of the reclusive genius who would later write nearly 1,800 poems--most discovered only after her death--and become one of America’s greatest literary voices.
