He was also doing that in a very high-offense era, too - there were a lot of guys hitting 30 dingers, so 30 dingers was easier to replace.

Think it's worth distinguishing between "people who work in tech" at the level of say, a Google PM, and the people at Google who are making these strategic decisions. The former mostly don't want to kill the Web; the latter are at *best* indifferent.
