While adaptation seeks to adjust to the now-inevitable consequences of the fossil fuel era, geoengineering seeks to prolong that era. Adaptation is an emergency response; geoengineering is part of an agenda of predatory delay. To compare seawalls to dimming the sun is, contra Kaufman, illogical

But the strangest part of this article is idea that #geoengineering and adaptation are somehow analogous. It doesn't take an atmospheric scientist to recognize that there is a difference not just in size and scale, but in kind.

Then there's this canard: "On the left, the most extreme thinkers argue that the world should be talking only about mitigating emissions."
Really? Who?
Seems to me the climate left is well united in a mitigation + adaptation strategy: try to cut off fossil fuels while also preparing for the worst

And while the estimable @hollyjeanbuck.bsky.social does make a leftist argument in favor of (some) forms of geoengineering, it still seems like a matter of debate on the Jacobin left

This is especially eyebrow raising: "now some activists ... argue that geoengineering technologies are a way of reversing capitalism’s climate sins." But the only source we get is a guy who appears to have written all of 1 article in his lifetime

Avoiding Climate Imperialism: A Leftist Vision of Geoengineering — THE TROUBLE.
Is it sensible to try and steer geoengineering in an attempt to rectify capitalism’s scars on the biosphere? In a word: yes.

It’s tonight. This very night. This moment as people pile on the Nuzzi / Lizza ridiculousness. You’ve arrived. (Runner up: that night Bluesky convinced itself that Trump was dead or dying)
