Really getting into the brushwork in the early lay-in of this piece. The first marks on a blank surface are the most exciting

These two paintings have been stuck in customs in S. Korea for a month now . . . They were supposed to be in a show in Seoul that has come and gone. I'm really hoping they make it home safely, they're two of my favorites. I'm painting what was supposed to be a companion piece for the crowd one...

I thought (well hoped ) this painting was done, turns out it's not. Not sure what it needs.... Here's hoping a few days sitting with it will let me know what it needs

It's been . . . literally years since I attended a life drawing session. The Boston Figurative Art Center session at the Natick Mall was awesome. GREAT model, supportive crowd. Good day to kick some of the rust off.

I got back from South Korea on Thursday. I genuinely can't tell if I'm jetlagged or it's just the exhaustion from the state of the world.

I'm reading "Big Jim and the White Boy." I heard it was good, and I expected it to be good. But it's significantly better than i thought it would be. More complicated, and packs a bigger punch.

I saw a still from a Numberblocks show today, and said "Hey! I drew that!" so I pulled up my storyboards for the show. Sooo, here's a throwback Thursday for you. I like the change the animators made to 8 there on the right. I kinda miss my shocked-face 1 on the left though . . ..

I love painting with oil paint on unconventional surfaces -- in this case still plastic-wrapped wooden panels.

Some mixed media drawing yesterday

I'm having an uninterrupted studio day for the first time in awhile...

More work on the drawing . . .. I usually go straight to paint with no underdrawing, but for reasons I need a substantive drawing for this project.

Nothing special, just an early sketch for a project. But I'm trying to savor the process so I thought I should share it

This chair is about Mary Mcleod Bethune. It's a collaboration between Jeff Olsen, Carol Krentzman and myself. Currently on display at the Morse Library in Natick MA

I ran across this coyote walking my dog this morning. He graciously hung out for a few minutes and let me look at him. I want to paint a coyote...

I think billionaires and mega-corporations have realized that in disasters (like pandemics, floods, fires) their money grows substantially faster. The ten richest people in the US on average DOUBLED their net worth during the pandemic.
So what's in it for them to PREVENT disasters?

spent too much time this morning trying and failing to get a video in the right format to make Bluesky happy. It's under 60 seconds, and under 50MB, but bluesky thinks it's not. I'll try again tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I found my missing woodless pencil and had fun doodling people on my zoom meeting

Double-faced Janus was the god of the New Year, looking both backwards and forwards. But if you're only looking two directions you're missing SO MUCH of reality.

Oil painting on aluminum -- In addition to the bare aluminum, some areas are painted really translucently so the reflectivity of the aluminum really glows through it.

Close up from the easel... this one might be really close to done. Working title "False Dichotomies"or maybe just "Dichotomies" since the false is such a strong association with that word
