It was so much fun! We laughed, we cried, I would do it again & again. 🐱.

New manuscripts planned, outlines made, other manuscripts advanced, & academic domination schemed (Benevolent Version)

In the multiverse, there is a Daniel that grew up in Seattle, so I feel connected to this magical city.
During my weeklong getaway to Seattle, I did the following:

1. Drown myself in Victrola Coffee.

2. Graphically explained the pathophysiology of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease to a teenager.

3. Hung out with @professorsmith.bsky.social and @profgoldberg.bsky.social.

I think this moment is highlighting the distinction between administration/managerialism and actual *leadership* in higher ed.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Here's my own rendition of 'The Doom Loop' - which
@james7jackson.bsky.social tipped me off about recently. As Labourn & Dyke write: "Climate change is making geopolitics less stable, which harms climate action. This will worsen climate change, meaning more geopolitical instability, and so on"

Surveillance has been a recurring theme in the @agugeohealth.bsky.social sessions at #agu24. Chandra Ganesh & I have a book chapter on climate change & surveillance from a law / policy perspective. You can get it here 👉 www.zotero.org/jasonasmith #shamelessplug

Today was all about extreme heat; convergence research; and climate and health. My public health law colleagues should explore @agu.org. So many governance and legal issues to be explored and refreshingly the scientists are looking to collaborate. #AGU24
