You can be reasonably sure nobody is carrying a weapon more dangerous than a knife in Japan (although when I moved here there was an infamous attack on private school kids waiting for a bus in a park, so that's only moderately reassuring). When I was jogging regularly I gave women joggers wide berth

I've heard lots of women in Japan report that someone followed them (either just randomly on the street or all the way home). I've also observed men chasing after women as a sort of aggressive catcalling or wolfing, called "nampa" in Japanese. Men can be scary anywhere.

90 percent sure she barely gave it a thought. But I definitely had my building key out before I hit the foyer. And hoped she doesn't read as many spy novels as I do.

Today she was complaining that it was incredibly complicated to set up. She hasn't scolded me for not setting it up recently.

The customer, a South Asian woman who I think may work at Rakuten, was more than patient. I tried the transaction on my phone with mobile data and it still failed to move. Finally she suggested switching from Pasmo to my own personal PayPay, which did work, and I reconciled it when the 500s stopped.

Anyway she has taken charge of everything but uploading photos, basically, including making lots of support calls. The Point of Sale system as "enables staff to take even complex orders" has nearly incompatible goals with "let customers order on their own."

The social awkwardness of fat gaijin me going to the building lobby to pick up a package inadequately dress is far less of a social faux pas in Japan than being female and leaving home without makeup and a socially acceptable outfit

It's not quite ready for shipping, but we should have order-for-pickup ready shortly (it's technically "working" but there are some items that have options that don't make sense together, normally managed by staff).

Some items may be shippable in a month or two.

This led me to have both overly dark and dry rolls and also to be about 30 minutes behind on bread at opening.

(Consecutive autocorrected to conservative for some reason)

There's a case to be made for two days off a week, as long as it's conservative (bread production reasons). But the high rent makes that seem worse (though today sales were only just above our daily rent).

That said, it's not that predictable. Sometimes Mondays outsell Wednesdays.

Tuesday was our slowest day. Monday was sometimes outselling Tuesday even though it was our scheduled day off and we just did bread clearance and low service items for a limited time. So we swapped. It took a bit of time to get customers used to the new hours but generally does a bit better.
