Not getting the playing time you want?
How much TIME did you invest:
🤔 in the offseason?
🤔 in the weight room?
🤔 getting in shape?
🤔 watching video?
🤔 improving your mental game?
🤔 developing your leadership?
🤔 studying the plays?
🤔 connecting with teammates?

YOUR COMMITMENT LEVEL IS A CHOICE

Every single day you get dozens of opportunities to demonstrate your commitment.

Over time, all these choices eventually add up to your individual and team success—or failure if you don't fully commit.

If you fail to hold your teammates accountable during practices,

YOUR COMPETITORS WILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE ON GAME DAY.

How reliable are you?
Can your team count on you to get the job done?
Are you dependable especially under pressure?

Be the athlete your team can depend on.
Be the teammate who consistently gets the job done.
Be the person your team wants to see when the game is on line.

If you can control it,
we need you to be responsible for it.

If you are responsible for it,
we can hold you accountable for it.

If you are accountable for it,
our team's success depends on you doing it.

If our team's success depends on it,
it matters and you matter!

EVERY TIME I...
- let you short change a weight workout, I weaken our team.
- let you miss a conditioning time, I slow down our team.
- let you talk about a teammate, I hurt our team's chemistry.
- don't hold you accountable, I give our opponents an edge.

Make your opponent earn every inch.
Make your opponent earn every point.
Make your opponent earn everything.

Most opponents can't sustain a high enough level of focus, effort, and execution
throughout a competition.

When you make your opponent earn it, you don't beat yourself.

Standards
Commitments
Agreements
Covenants

Championship teams establish, endorse, and enforce them.

Losing teams either never make them
or don't consistently hold people accountable to them.

What Standards have you set?
How high are they?
Who holds people accountable to them?

Wanting to win is great.
But the most successful athletes, coaches, and people I know HATE TO LOSE even more than they want to win.
They take losing personally and do everything ethically in their power to avoid it.
How much do you HATE TO LOSE?
What are you doing to prevent it?

GREAT LEADERS DO 2 THINGS REALLY WELL:
1. RELATE WITH PEOPLE: the best leaders connect with their people to learn their goals, motivations, frustrations, and fears.
2. REQUIRE THINGS OF PEOPLE: the best leaders set, coach, and hold their people accountable to high standards.

LEADERS, I CHALLENGE YOU TO ASK THIS QUESTION: ⁉️
What's the 1 thing I don't want to hear but NEED TO HEAR if we're going to be successful?
✅ ADs ask your coaches
✅ coaches ask your assistants/captains
✅ captains ask your team
👂🏾 Listen closely and sincerely thank them.

Where's Your Team on the Critical Intangibles of Winning?

"Serve first, lead second."
Robert Greenleaf

True leadership is about service.
Serving your team.
Serving your teammates.
Serving your mission.

How can you best serve today?
Do it.

What's lacking today?
• Loyalty
• Responsibility
• Accountability
• Respect
• Class

Differentiate yourself by being the most loyal, responsible, accountable, respectful, and classy person on the team.

You'll be loved - and you'll be a leader.

You can complain about it.
Or you can fix it.

You can point fingers.
Or you can take responsibility.

You can wait for someone else to do it.
Or you can get it done today.

You can watch you teammates be lazy.
Or you can hold them accountable.

Your choices lead to your success.

Every rep skipped, every late arrival, every half-effort sets the team's new normal.
Your team's standards can't be optional; they've got to be non-negotiable.

CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES 🤔
What are the consequences for an athlete who doesn’t uphold your standards?
Do the consequences help correct & stop the behavior?
Do the consequences act as a deterrent?
Are the consequences consistent?
Is your AD in alignment with your consequences?
