Model trains, electronics, HP calculators, FPGA, Ham radio, SDR, rustlang and more. F# is my secret weapon.

Every day is an opportunity to suck at something new.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
When in doubt, tell the truth.
Hurry, time is running….ummm?

Then of course there is the Czech ČSD T 478.3, whose nickname in German would be Taucherbrille (diving goggles). Personally I think it has a bit of a Minion vibe.

Do DMUs count? If they do, that would be the Danish IC3 "Gumminase". The first time I came across one, I squealed with delight.

A favorite summer activity: making apricot jam. Been using the same variety fruit from the same farm for at least 10 years.

This is even funnier in the shortened version:

Quick evening experiment: Playing with USB-C PPS, using an #Arduino Uno and a #Centylabs RotoPD eval board. To my delight, the multi-port charger I bought for the kids supports it, and can do 3.3-11 V, at 2A. Not super accurate, but neat anyway!

Electrician cosplay is strong today.

Rewiring of the control stand for the #modeltrain layout almost complete. Just testing the CAN bus control with a solenoid module, seems to work fine.

We'll see in Chehalis next weekend how well it works in practice.

Thank you @2sk22.bsky.social for making me aware of #MERG! I hadn’t come across them before, but now that I have built a few of their kits, I really like them!

In a quick web search, I found this unexpected gem on Reddit on what do do with one:

European Train Enthusiasts (ete-pnw.org), showing off the new corner module of our layout at the train show in Ridgefield, WA this weekend. Stop by if you are in the Portland area!

Next weekend we’ll be in Puyallup.

On the bench tonight: A friend's model of a DB BR 403 in the original Intercity livery. These were later used for the Lufthansa Airport Express. This particular model is a Lima 201078L that somebody converted to #Marklin 3-rail AC operation. Will run in Tacoma tomorrow. #modeltrains

Freshly serviced DHG 500 (#marklin 3080) making herself useful already. Not easy if you are this small and 50+ years old, but she is doing very well. #modeltrains

Come to the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma and look at some model trains! Here is E94 145 getting ready for duty. #modeltrains #marklin

This design is good enough for now, printing a few more overnight. This is a presence detector for #Marklin or #Trix #modeltrain track, using cheap #Adafruit 2167 IR Break Sensors. They plug directly into a Märklin 60883 "L 88" module.

I think I have reached peak chaos. Surprisingly though, everything works as planned, including the cheap presence detector from Adafruit bits.

Time to tidy up some wiring, I guess. #modeltrain #marklin

Progress in the train yard!

If you think this is funny, you are old. Sorry!

Chaos still increasing, but the path is Hp1.

Signal checks out, let’s create some order from this chaos!

A friend of mine has an Autozam AZ1. It’s fantastic! I think it is still exhibited at the LeMay car museum in Tacoma.

Back to basics, then build from there.
