Someone found that for some SpringerNature journals, citation counts are off for the first article in each volume, causing random articles to be cited A LOT (see attached)

Can someone turn this into a quasi-experiment to study what effect citations have on careers - independent of study quality?

Glaub da ist ein kleiner Fehler passiert - diese Zahlen sind die für die CDU-Vorschläge, nicht für die Grünen.

Nach einer Berechnungen des Steuerzahlerbundes, die der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters vorliegt, könnte etwa eine Familie mit Doppelverdienern und zwei Kindern bei einem Einkommen von 72.000 Euro 1042 Euro im Jahr sparen. Bei einem Verdienst von 144.000 Euro wäre die Ersparnis 3496 Euro. Bei einem kinderlosen Single würde die Entlastung bei einem Jahreseinkommen von 24.000 Euro nach den Berechnungen nur 126 Euro betragen.”

I read this as: basically they don’t know how exactly o3 used the ARC-train set! Could be ARC-train was just in the main training set (as you say), could be they finetuned 50k epochs on it after main training (as I said)

Can you point to a documentation of what WAS done? My understanding is: they finetuned o3 on a public training set of ARC, and that is why the result graph (below) refers to it as “o3 (tuned)”.

I agree with Gary (as said above) that such a tuning step makes it hard to compare to real world usage.

openAIs latest o3 model might cost up to $5000 per query—and still only solves <90% of certain logic puzzles (examples attached).

I mean — amazing that this works at all, but I would happily do it for $100/puzzle ;-)

The Musk illusion Many people believe that their internal life is much richer than anything they can express in real time through their mouth or otherwise. One can view this illusion as a version of subjective inflation (see but what about the rich detail everywhere in my visual scene?) generalized beyond visual perception: because we could engage in any one of the possible actions or thoughts in the next second, it feels as though we could execute them all at the same time. In practice, however, they happen sequentially. For the most part, this is a harmless illusion. However, when paired with the immense fortune of Elon Musk, the belief can lead to real-world consequences. Musk decided to do something about the problem and create a direct interface between his brain and a computer to communicate at his unfettered rate: “From a long-term existential standpoint, that’s, like, the purpose of Neuralink, to create a high-bandwidth interface to the brain such that we can be symbiotic with AI,” he said. “Because we have a bandwidth problem. You just can’t communicate through your fingers. It’s just too slow.”56 Based on the research reviewed here regarding the rate of human cognition, we predict that Musk’s brain will communicate with the computer at about 10 bits/s. Instead of the bundle of Neuralink electrodes, Musk could just use a telephone, whose data rate has been designed to match human language, which, in turn, is matched to the speed of perception and cognition.

Wenn ich mit der DHL/Post-App den nächsten Briefkasten suche, werde ich vor einem „internationalen Datentransfer“ an #Bing gewarnt — eigentlich gut, aber welche Daten übertragen werden würden steht nicht dabei. So ist eine wirklich informierte Entscheidung weiter unmöglich :(
