Much of is the result of people (electors and elected) not understanding that good governance is as important as it is boring; and a strong, independent public service to support it is vital. #politics

Grossly irresponsible and triggering reporting about eating disorders on #australianstory last night. Go talk to the Butterfly Foundation @abcaustralia.bsky.social and do better.

@abcnewsaustralia.bsky.social provides a mealy mouthed, hur hur obit to Hulk Hogan, with a tiny mention that he “used a racial slur”. Perhaps Auntie is too delicate to go into the abhorrent detail of what the man represented.

Anyone else waiting for Clarrie to hit the fan, using her new assertiveness skills, when she hears Joy has the job at the bull? #TheArchers 🤔

The Emma Grundy Paradox - the kind of girl who writes to men in prison isn’t good enough for her son. Also, her son is the man in prison. 🤷🏼‍♀️ #TheArchers

Ralph Vaughan Williams would like a word, #spellingbee (yes, yes, via Bianco da Siena and I have no idea of the proper translation, I’m just making a point). @nytgames.bsky.social

Couldn’t stomach Tim Wilson so turned to Radio Melbourne morning show and what the heck? Remember when #abc radio was worth listening to?

I’m still struggling to recover from this latest (third) bout - lungs fine but fevers, headache and nausea persist into week three.
Listen up, Australia. Covid is doing a surge. Isolate and test if you're unwell. Wear an N95 mask in crowded indoor spaces 😷. Keep your physical distance from those you don't live with. We all know what to do, so let's reduce the spread of this virus.

I’m always wary of people who coat themselves in too much certainty.
We pay too much attention to strong opinions—and too little to deep insight and broad perspectives.

Pontificating is not a sign of credibility. Hot takes are not a substitute for being well-informed.

Expertise is how much you know. Wisdom is knowing how much you have to learn.

I love watching people who follow pretentious high profile “experts” on this and that rush to be witty in the comments. #ihatepeople

On what planet are
1. people left in a lift for two hours waiting on engineers to respond rather than emergency services
2. no senior staff available for emergencies in a high end hotel
3. unstuck people entirely unruffled on disembarking said lift?

Am I alone thinking the characterisation of the coalition split as “divorce” and “end of the affair” would likely not be used if there were two male leaders? (Imagine how it would be characterised with two women.) I’m recalling the framing of Julia Gillard in the media - do better. #auspol

I’m so frustrated - had flu and RSV in Dec 24 and it has taken months to get my fitness back. Now felled by COVID. Lungs don’t seem too bad this time but experience says it’s a bit of a slog back. I just want to run! 🏃 #running #runningismytherapy

One of my favourite #grammar nerds on one of my least favourite grammar mistakes. It’s definitely common in Australia - and grates on me anywhere.
May 17, 2025 at 5:53 PM
@grammargirl.bsky.social I realised I have been using epitome somewhat incorrectly and it has humbled me - thank you! I wonder if you might at some point soothe my ego by doing a segment on people misusing “versus” - where they will say eg: “In last night’s match, tigers versed cubs”.

So now the ABC has moved from obsessing over the Coalition under Dutton to obsessing over it under Ley. You could be forgiven for not realising there’s a Labor govt with a 93 seat presence in the Parliament, full of talented women in positions of influence. #auspol

This is not true at any level of Australian government at least. In most cases rules around gifts are strictly controlled to avoid a conflict of interest being created, even if there is no immediate quid pro quo. But we all already know this, right? #auspol
Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.
