I do comedy, lecturing, journalism, radio and writing. I like beaches, books and buildings.
I’ve lost a couple of stone since this cancer malarkey started (note: my BMI currently stands in the middle of the “healthy” range so 🤷🏻‍♀️).

I picked up a Macmillan guide to a “building up” diet to avoid losing more. I note that it’s basically “what Jane eats.”

Facebook algorithms can fuck right off (also that’s the US spelling of fuelled so it can fuck off twice as hard).

Nope, those were from the evil empire.

It was these people. Of course I’m gonna buy a dinosaur wrap/hair bandeau/snood thing when my algorithms present it to me, but that doesn’t mean we’re engaged.

Further to this, a thing called GREAT! Player (accessed via the Freeview Play app) seems to be the motherlode without shelling out for Hallmark.

I discovered a nice 4-mile circular walk and quickly I found that I had a favourite field.

Yeah, I kind of did. I was very lucky to have a job I could do online (although lecturing was tough…) and at the time I lived in rural Leicestershire. I got to know all sorts of footpaths and even had a favourite FIELD within weeks.

Felt well enough today for a little stroll to lovely Devonport Market Hall, where I cautiously (masked & beanied) did a quick tour of the artisan craft market.

My hairline seems to have receded about an inch overnight and most of it is on my pillow. Beanie time, I think. And maybe clippers in a couple of days.

(By the way I’m supremely relaxed about the hair loss - a very minor inconvenience as the chemo does its job).

By the way, if you’re looking for a festive supermarket sandwich, this one is really quite something. Recommended.

This was the scene in my basin when I just touched my fringe while cleaning my teeth earlier, so they will be needed soon.

I’d ordered a couple of beanies off Etsy (that I’d forgotten about) and it turns out that if I wear both at once, I look like one of Santa’s elves.

And one more, this one from Powder that I bought at a garden centre about ten years ago.

Yes! The handybands *are* the snoods. Phew.
November 26, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Oh! Maybe you’re right! Just seen the sizing and it says “45cm” and then this pic suggests they kind of unwrap.
November 26, 2025 at 4:42 PM
Hello - serious question. If anyone has a Seasalt handyband, are they the same thing as the snoods? The pictures make them look smaller. I am looking for a kind of jersey tube about 30/40cm.

How I felt soaking up the sun and the view today.

For today’s gentle walk, I decided to dress as the world’s oldest small boy. I am very wobbly because I have lost all my muscle mass and my legs are like teeny tiny sticks. But I made myself put one foot in front of the other for at least seven minutes of Outside. #ovariancancer #chemo

Post a movie from where you’re from.

This is a beautiful and moving tribute to the wonderful writer Rachel Cooke. But also, as you might imagine in my current situation, has absolutely destroyed me. Ovarian cancer can get to fuck. observer.co.uk/style/featur...

I’m gonna keep sharing these ovarian cancer symptoms whenever I see them.

I will add - from personal experience - diarrhoea and fatigue.

Get it checked! Remember, there’s no routine screening for ovarian cancer.

Today’s theme is #pictures, and this is that time I was somehow magically all alone in the room with Vermeer’s The Girl with the Pearl Earring at the Mauritshuis in Den Haag.

But - can’t deny that I’m loving my new cheekbone/chin definition. Couldn’t carry my pre-chemo haircut without the weight loss.

Pre-chemo haircut. My lovely hairdresser came to my flat and didn’t charge me. She is the best.

Repost with an iconic fictional band (if you feel like it).

I was feeling a bit of cabin fever so these legends took me for a bracing visit to Jennycliff, where we had lunch in the cafe. Please admire the stunning vista of Plymouth waterfront and Drake’s Island in the background.
