What a privilege to celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th birthday in Steventon where she was born in 1775 and spent much of her life, and in St Nicholas church where she was christened and worshipped.

On 16th December 1775 the novelist Jane Austen was born in the tiny village of Steventon, in Hampshire.
The daughter of the rector of this quiet country parish, Austen went onto become one of our greatest and most loved novelists 😍

On 30th Oct 1811 Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen was published.
Austen had started writing her novel 16 years earlier in 1795 while living in Steventon, Hampshire. The Overton Jane Austen trails cross the beautiful country to her birthplace and home for 25 years at Steventon

The Jane Austen plaque in Steventon Church, Hampshire where her father was rector and where she was christened in April 1776. Inside the peaceful interior of the church are memorial stones to Jane' friends and family including her brother James who was also rector.

11th Aug 1843, Jane Austen's sister-in-law, Mary, was buried at Steventon Church in a grave next to her husband, James Austen. Jane knew Mary from a girl and their friendship was sometimes strained but Mary was by Jane's bedside at the end of her short life.
