Yup, keyboard input is handled by one of the CIA chips (the one closer to the keyboard connector on the board). Might also be a problem with the contacts in the keyboard assembly itself. Both are relatively common faults in my experience.

Indeed. I’ve seen quite a few way more modern CD players fail in way more spectacular (and less easy to repair) ways. Also, the service manuals were much more in-depth back in the day. They actually wanted things to be repairable still. *sigh*
