Gotta love how dishonest those renderings of elevated rail are. Six lanes of traffic and no landscaping vs beautiful bike lane utopia as though those are the options.

Traditionally people undermining public transit propose monorails so I suppose they're innovating in that way.

I can't believe they didn't even overinflate the ridership capacity or make wild claims about speed... It's the worst option by every measure and they're still going ahead.

This is the same SBCTA responsible for the "ZEMU" on Arrow. It seems like they're prioritizing a naive vision of "innovation" over actually providing a useful service. Are they genuinely clueless or is it malicious?

Hasn't this been studied to death already?? Shouldn't they be going straight into final engineering design if they have committed funding?

Human beings can't detect wetness either. We can only detect the temperature change caused by the conductivity of water pulling warmth from our skin and we interpret that as "wet". Even things we think of senses are abstracted.

Tech is pro-immigration in the sense it benefits hugely from "visa slavery" - you can get skilled people in, underpay them relative to citizens, and make it very hard for them to change job due to the restrictive visa terms. Most anti-immigration rhetoric is veiled racism or, charitably, anti-poor.

SoC was a late PS2 title so it was using techniques specific to the HW to do "next-gen"-looking effects like bloom and HDR-like lighting we'd associate with PS3 era. vaguely remember PS2 stored RGB textures 0..127 so it was easy to "overdrive" colours and end up with that overexposed look

You're probably right - PS2 hardware had amazingly fast alpha blending for the time so the best looking games used it liberally. I don't remember the HW having multitexturing so this would be 2 passes. was a long time ago tho!

c++ is tremendously powerful but elegant it is not. you might want to use typescript as a statically typed wrapper around javascript. it's pretty ubiquitous and not awful.

modern javascript is *fine*. It has some quirks but its not like C++ or something.

"spatial partitioning". This is a perfect application for a BSP tree or something like it.
