This is one of my favorite parts of campaigning — getting to know hard working people and hearing their stories. These folks stitch our communities together and I am lucky to be a part of it.

As we remember Helene today, we're also celebrating our youngest son Levi's 16th birthday. We're so proud of him, and truly grateful to be under better circumstances than last year.

Every day, it seems like our communities become more divided. But it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s always the right time to choose each other over our differences and put our neighbors first.

Amy and I are supporting the Big Ivy Community Center and the Community Kitchen in Canton, both of which stepped up during Helene and are still doing incredibly important work.

If I were to list all of the acts of kindness that I witnessed in the aftermath of Helene, I would have you reading this post for days. Many of them are ongoing and in many cases it will be years before we heal what was broken.

But we keep coming together and putting things back together.

We weren’t separated by our differences. We found strength in crisis by working with our neighbors and doing the hard work of putting things back together.
