Let's talk about "efficiency". We have been taught that it's good, and it often is in daily life, but a core purpose of government is the polar opposite. Much of govt exists to protect us from the kind of efficiency (as narrowly measured) that causes massive harms especially to the less powerful.

More LLM "AI" enshittification, seen in Gmail. Apparently as of today, to turn off the Gemini LLM in Gmail, you need to entirely turn off smart features including inbox auto-sorting (Promotions, etc). That feature has been around for years pre-LLM, works great, and made email bearable.

There's no way to guess the population density of the canyon from this carefully staged shot.

We never conquer a mountain, only visit for a brief time. Nachaktsen in the North Cascades of WA USA is a place that doesn't get a lot of visitors, at that.

Exciting new business opportunity: A phone app that warns you when you're near any such device (assuming it ever exists). Premium version of the app would somehow jam it.

Evidence that baby seals may be smarter and happier than we are: Here they are blissfully ignoring national headlines earlier today. Nearby otters were taking a similar approach.
