'Paintball' clearly has the same root as 'Paignton', the coastal town in Devon (recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Peintone'), meaning 'the people of'; 'ball' means a farm or homestead but is usually Scots, so 'Skirmish Paintball' is likely 'that farm with those Scots who like a fight'.
