Yes, `position-anchor: auto` handles that. But you may not want to share popovers, as you can't easily switch between anchors while keeping the popover open. This demo might help explain what I mean- codepen.io/jamessw/pen/...

It's available behind a flag in Firefox! Go to about:config, and enable layout.css.anchor-positioning.enabled. And while it's an editor's draft, there's a lot that (about to be) interoperable!

Finally got around to tracking it down and documenting it. Turns out if you nest a popover and give it position-try-fallbacks, your browser will hang indefinitely.
