FWIW, all this is supported by the anatomy of the brain. The structure of the sensory cortex is essentially the same throughout the whole cortex, so, the same as prefrontal cortex. It makes sense that those different areas of the brain are basically doing the same thing: recognizing patterns.

Language and reportability only happen when patterns get to the highest level of this hierarchy (prefrontal cortex, etc.). But the recognitions at the lower levels are still psychules, still conscious, and mechanisms of attention determine whether they get presented to higher levels.

To understand human consciousness, it’s important to understand human consciousness is hierarchical, in that sensory patterns are recognized, and then patterns in those patterns are recognized, and then patterns in those patterns are recognized, and so on.

Panqualityism says everything has a quality which may or may not become conscious. Psychule Theory says yes, and that “quality” is a real (realized) pattern which may or may not get recognized. The discussion in the video focused on “unconscious qualities” or patterns which aren’t recognized.

Psychule theory says that pattern recognition requires a response to a pattern realization, so a response to C, and the combination of realization and response constitutes an experience, i.e., a psychule.

When A interacts w/ B producing C, C becomes a realization of that pattern. You could call that pattern realization an experience, giving panpsychism, or you could call it a necessary ingredient of an experience, giving panprotopsychism. Psychule Theory says it’s the latter.
