No point in half measures and being a 'rule taker not a rule maker': let's rejoin as a full member of the EU. It will happen in my lifetime; the politics and demographics are inevitable. It will be interesting to see which of our many opt-outs we can renegotiate.

If the albums don’t hit you could maybe give my intro to Tori playlist a go:

I prefer her to all three (though I love Kate and Fiona dearly; never could get into Joanna even a little bit) but as Tori herself once said: “I know I'm an acquired taste - I'm anchovies. And not everybody wants those hairy little things.”

yes definitely; she also sang about "burning CDs" in that song way before it was a thing.

she also claims to have been visited by eleven muses (actual spiritual entities) since she was a child who gift her songs or fragments of songs. Love her.

It’s superb

It’s a shame that remix is all some people in the UK know of her work. As you suggest, it’s not really representative at all. Check out my intro to Tori playlist.

I love this album and return to it often but in my opinion she surpassed it with Boys for Pele, From the Choirgirl Hotel and Scarlet’s Walk.

Yes, Tori is an incredible live performer. I’m looking forward to seeing her next year when she tours the next album.

A “broach” is something else.
Does anyone employ sub-editors any more?

I’m very sorry that you were dragged out with us. In retrospect it’s clear that a requirement for both an overall supermajority of two-thirds of votes cast and that all four nations of the UK needed to vote separately to leave should have been built into the referendum threshold.

Other way round for me.
Tori was breaking in the UK just as I was getting into alternative music and I loved her from Little Earthquakes on. I knew who Kate was but hadn’t explored her work and resented the Tori/Kate comparisons. Now I love Kate and seeing her live in 2014 remains a cherished memory

Have you heard her much later song Reindeer King? It affects me in much the same way. Ostensibly it’s inspired by her mother having a paralysing stroke but the mantra of the song - “gotta get you back to you” - can apply to any struggle to reclaim your health, self or power.
