Distributed risk across a wide population. Gosh, isn't that what insurance is? Then "collective"--a bit of snazz to sound newish and cool-ish. Or as auto correct has it: foolish rather than cool/ish.

Which part of our profession? I am still holding out that the humanities, africana studies, ocean studies, even the arts are too marginal or has become marginalized. Its the military-industrial (so old fashioned am i!) of academe...as western civilization disappeared they have no use for us.
