Many issues here. One is equating dangers of today's far left with today's far right, which is off in terms of dangers to diverse communities in Europe. The far left can mestasize but last I checked (and I have) the security services of most member states are worried about the far right.

I think this line of argument is seeks to redefine a cordon sanitaire to the point of making it seem like it never actually existed.

We used to have standards about the political parties we did business with on the right. Times clearly have changed. But it's still important to mark these shifts honestly and publicly.

The busting of the cordon sanitaire is a big step towards the troubling dynamic you describe. I guess that's way cordons are there in the first place.

Either way, relying on the hard right majority does represent a sharp turn away from the previous prerogative of centrist majorities. Political scientists and historians have been warning about this for years now.
