Thanks for the wave.
Keep warm.
There's hot chocolate.
Halifax parade of lights
November 15, 2025 at 10:14 PM
Not that it's my thing, but at the very least if I do look out upon the parade of lights I'll be toasty in my place looking down upon the festivities. Parade of lights? But 🎅 is the final float...so is it not Santa claus parade :-) old fart complains

I wait all week for a few simple things: a couple of football matches; a nice wine with dinner; some time to do the tidying-up I should have done earlier in the week; catching up on reading; checking in with family and friends online or (better yet) face-to-face; and some writing.

This café is so much my weekend home and writing refuge that I have begun to imagine myself wearing one of the aprons with the corporate logo and my name stitched into the corner. Perhaps something to add to my retirement?

Earliest news memory - a spinning globe "This is the BBC"

Watch out folks.
Trumpelina may decide to go after them all ...
like the CBC.
Indeed. The BBC is in my view one of Britain‘s most important institutions. It is imperfect.
Everything is.
You destroy it at your peril.
If ever there was a time to rally around something very British, it is now.
Just an outsider‘s opinion.
So many social media patriots! Delighting in the hope that the president of a foreign nation might destroy a British institution that is envied around the world! 🇬🇧

It never ceases to amaze me how much hubris and stupidity exists. This is the generation of "break stuff." Arses one and all.

Perhaps our focus should be on the generation who would simply like to be able to afford to have stuff to break.

Why? Why? WHY? Why do i watch news on Friday night? It merely take away from a few moments of calm over the weekend.

Then again, the lessons of my family over WW1 and WW2 tell me...there is no room for rest when times are at their worst.

And times are at their worst.

I will sleep when I die.

Reading week. Friday. 2:30pm. Student walks in and with energy and excitements asks me "what are the career prospects if I continue in #GIS and #geography?" I smiled and said "have a seat and let me tell you a story about a grand future for you!"

Reading week. Friday. holy keen batman.

What sort of an idiot am I? Take a day off for medical shite, then end up at cafe, when what I should be doing is grab a Chablis, go home, munch on some goodies (and gouda) and enjoy UEFA WC qualifiers!! (Go Iceland! Go Norway!...ok...England too :-) )
ciao... auf wiedersehen.....ta ta....

Dang. Dropped into cafe, seeing as I took the day off, only to be reminded that certain times during the week are impossible waits. I sense a theme building.

I think my head exploded. What manure pile did they dig-up these arsenuts¹
CNN: The judge said there was funding available to fully fund SNAP and you didn't use it

BROOKE ROLLINS: That judge in Rhode Island is the largest Democrat donor

CNN: Is it not factual that the judge said $4b could've been used to fully fund SNAP?

ROLLINS: That is not facts

Funny system. Hour Bus to specialist for 15 mins to then get referred to another specialist. Then hour back home on bus to prep for another three months wait list. Thank God medical care is (,for now) free. Now Halifax can we make bus fares for seniors free lol 😆

Off topic. Personal.

Where a conservative commentary refers to PP and his statements as "an alternative" I get really worried. Are we starting to use the "alt-facts" language? Oh god no.
November 12, 2025 at 11:41 PM
Off topic: Personal:

When I see PP asking who a media person represents before answering a question, I see the same tactic as orange man. Seriously, is this not noticed by others?

(just saying thanks to @davidwcochrane.bsky.social CBC Power and Politics, the video makes the air... awesome show)

Someone just sent me a draft of an edited version of something I wrote, with edits made by an Ai.

I am done. Done I tell you. The end.

One for my #GIS colleagues: I've noted a fair number of students (i.e. almost all) don't recognize the name Roger Tomlinson. What's up with that?
November 12, 2025 at 3:18 PM
I'd like to thank Halifax businesses that waited until after Remembrance Day to show Christmas decorations. I noted one stylish, simple display this a.m. I'm a traditionalist but style is also appreciated (thx Rolex folks...now fix the time on your clock! :-) ...Santa will need accurate time !)
