Well given that "nihilists" is straight from Turgenev (I think), maybe. Novels seemed to have had an influence (notably "What is to be done")
The generally violent social atmosphere and anomie in the sense of reality not matching social norms probably also played a role.

Thiel to his bf: "Would you still love me if I was an immortal worm?"

I put myself through some bad sci-fi because it sounded plausible, now I know that Peter Thiel thinks he’s to become a huge worm

I ran into this a few weeks ago, the ms was plausible enough but exhausting to read. It took a while to sus it out, but it annoyed me to a degree that I complained on daily nous about it
I fear this will get worse, but (some) editors are aware of the problem

My solidarity!
I recently had a similar experience. The job was however so badly done, that I spotted it four pages in.
The worst part was that it skates on the edge of plausibility, without being outright terrible.

As the local Swiss person, I invite everybody around during fall and winter.
How much cheese per person do you use? I am always shocked that one can eat 200g and for inexperienced German guests I also reduce to 175g.

200g – with 1dl of wine and a bit of starch to avoid clumping

But fondue is meant to be shared, so make that 800g and 4dl, drop a clove of garlic in there

Is 3rd Person used for the 2nd person good enough? German and Swedish (?) did that into the 18th or 19th Century (?): „er stütze mich!“

German does so still with the plural: „Bringen Sie mir Brot!“
(No 1st person though)
