Underrated part of faculty life, even though it takes non-negligible time: writing recommendation letters.

It just feels good to write nice things about people.

Just a legendary run for FSU football:

- NCSU punt so bad it bonks off a blocker's head and the punter recovers

- Defense gets stop, punt is dropped

- Defense gives up 4th down TD

- Return flight diverted due to fog

- Bus breaks down on drive from Jacksonville to Tallahassee

In ~40 minutes, I'll be chatting with @jakecarstens.bsky.social and @drkimwood.bsky.social about this year's hurricane season!

It's a bit like a forum, so we'll have some Q&A for any specific questions that don't get brought up.

Just found out the awesome team at @climasillinois.bsky.social will be in Asheville in the next couple of days to conduct interviews about Risk Communication during #Helene.

If you live in the area and are willing to chat, feel free to reach out to them! They are an awesome group!

Career goal moment: 2015 Jake, reading AMS journal papers for Intro to Atmospheric Dynamics, would be mind blown to see his name in BAMS :) journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...

I was Last Friday years old when I learned that "67" is a meme. This likely explains many of the 600+ likes this post got.

(Seriously though, our students are doing forecasts for 11,000+ hockey fans and I couldn't be more proud 😭)

Excited to share our new BAMS publication w/ the field!

From Facebook to TikTok, weather and climate information has become increasingly digital. Our new BAMS paper charts the rise of digital meteorology, the AMS CDM Seal, and how universities are evolving to meet it. 🌪️🌩️📲

Back in the control room today! It's fun to sit back, press buttons, and work with our broadcast meteorology students as they get their reps in on camera.

Cole just started as a UND Weather Update anchor this semester and is killing it!

Fortunately well out to sea, but check out #Dexter & its resurrection as a powerful #extratropical cyclone over the North Atlantic.

Perfect case for a meteorological deep dive: Favorable trough interaction led to "sting jet" formation & #hurricane force winds as cyclone phases w/ shortwave. 🌀 🦂

1 year of faculty life in the books! Definitely not easy to begin with, and this year threw unique challenges out there, but UND has been the perfect home to settle into this. Big things on the way in Year 2.

I'll always appreciate this place for taking the chance on me to be its hurricane guy. 🌀

Bought this pin a few weeks back at a market in Winnipeg. The conversation at the register was succinct:

Excited to share a new lead-author paper, now available in final form in Environmental Research! authors.elsevier.com/a/1lOu73Ao6B...

A review article (supplemented by my own data viz) on the science connecting tropical cyclones and *whispers* climate change, plus implications for public health.
