You're being obtuse, and your suggestions prove you know it's tedious and unpleasant, you just believe parents should grin and bear it. And OP likely did, as all parents do. But it's ok to admit it sucks - more should.

You've reversed your point there though. Being a cyclist taught you the road is for cars and bikes go on the sidewalk, but being a pedestrian taught you they shouldn't be on the road... So if cars are on the road and bikes are on the sidewalk, where do pedestrians go?
