It's when a few students representing wealthy countries argue: "My country wins when we pollute as much as possible, and take no responsibility for the consequences," they quickly see how progress stalls when governments act with short-sighted, and ultimately self-defeating, self-interest. (4/4)

It becomes so obvious to most of the class, that the only thing they cannot understand, is why such global cooperation has been so hard to achieve. (3/4)

In that paper, lead author Una Miller (now at @cornelluniversity.bsky.social), will explore the potential consequences of fluctuations (or a climate-driven slowdown) in Labrador Sea deep convection on the supply of oxygen to the rest of the North Atlantic. Thanks @koelling.bsky.social for your work!

...we've got a paper in review to explain the final steps in Jannes's schematic - the oxygen export in the Deep Western Boundary Current. The Labrador Sea may come at the "end of the line" for subpolar circulation, but its role is critical for delivering oxygen to a huge volume of the ocean (2/3).

The Argo program was giving these tiny Lego kits away at a meeting a couple of years ago. I'll have to dig mine out from somewhere and show you! Fun stuff. They have a great outreach program including "adopt a float"! www.go-bgc.org/outreach/ado...

I'm curious how physically-demanding the work is? Like when you are 50+, can you still do it and, if not, are there less physical pieces of the job you can do at that point?
