I'm always SO offended on a client's behalf when I get a peek at their peer review reports. The attitude!!

Separately, I do a fair amount of work as an independent editor. But I'm always clear with those clients that if I'm getting paid as your editor, I will NOT consider your query as a literary agent. Clear conflict of interest there. I'm a member of the AALA and adhere to their Canon of Ethics.

We used to do this a lot & never really had a bad experience (other than someone backing out last minute). Usually you can have a meet-and-greet with the person first, which helps!
