It does make sense, tho. If he was passé blanc on too of everything else, it really never would have been meant for him to find happiness. And his untimely demise was REALLY inevitable (which was probably the point of the book anyway)

MORE IMPORTANTLY — F. Scott Fitzgerald was racist and that doesn’t sit well in my spirit.
