My #LastFourWatched for #LetterboxdFriday.

A pretty good run, but the 80th Anniversary screening of BRIEF ENCOUNTER was my clear favourite. #FilmSky

So fantastic to see BRIEF ENCOUNTER on the big screen yesterday afternoon, a special BFI event to mark its 80th anniversary.

Huge thanks to @samiraahmeduk.bsky.social for chairing a fascinating panel discussion with Emma Rice, Barnaby Thompson & Oliver Soden - all very insightful! #FilmSky

Loved the ANNA ANCHER exhibition, which recently opened at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

She captured light in interior spaces so beautifully. #Art #ArtSky #AnnaAncher #London #Dulwich

AVENTURERA (Michel Gout, 1950). Loved this madcap Mexican musical/melodrama featuring the fabulous Ninón Sevilla. What a knockout she is! (Currently on the BFI Player.)

My #LastFourWatched for #LetterboxdFriday (plus the week's viewing).

I enjoyed all of these, but THE ARCH (1968) and NOUVELLE VAGUE (2025) were the undoubted highlights. #FilmSky #Films @letterboxd.social

Richard Linklater’s NOUVELLE VAGUE (2025) is an utterly delightful love letter to the French New Wave. I wanted to skip and twirl my way to the tube station after emerging from the cinema! #FilmSky

Would definitely recommend Kinuyo Tanaka’s FOREVER A WOMAN / THE ETERNAL BREASTS (1955), especially to fans of Naruse and Ozu.

A tender heartbreaking and beautifully shot female-centric film, taking in infidelity by an uncaring husband, doomed love and terminal illness. #FilmSky

Love these photographs of Leonora Carrington and Leonor Fini from the LEE MILLER exhibition at Tate Britain.

There’s something very melancholy about them… #LeeMiller #Art #ArtSky #BookSky #London

The Philip Mould & Co gallery on Pall Mall is one of London’s lesser-known gems. So lovely to share it @joiedevivre9.bsky.social while she’s here on her trip! #Art #ArtSky

Huge thanks to @kirkdalebooks.bsky.social / @rolandbates.bsky.social for the tip off about the exhibition of Denton Welch’s art at the John Swarbrooke in London. Such a wonderfully strange collection of works!

Sadly, it’s finished now, but here are some pics. #art #BookSky 💙📚 #DentonWelch

Back at the Michael Werner Gallery in Mayfair today for another look at the POSTURES: JEAN RHYS IN THE MODERN WORLD exhibition, which includes various artworks in conversation with Rhys’ books.

Some interesting Brontë content here, for fans of their work! (Artworks by Celia Paul.) #art #BookSky 💙📚

My favourite first-time watches in October.

Various highlights from the London Film Fest here, plus another Mikhail Kalatozov and some classic horror. A terrific month! #FilmSky #LFF #Films

My #LastFourWatched for #LetterboxdFriday.

I went big on horror this week, with 3 first-time watches, all classics. Then a re-watch of THE HOUSE OF MIRTH as part of the BFI's Terence D. retrospective. (I guess this could qualify as a horror story in disguise, given the way it plays out!) #FilmSky

Lunch and a film with a friend today. THE HOUSE OF MIRTH looked magnificent on the big screen! #FilmSky
