… street use (with a focus on removing on-street parking), lowering speed limits, particularly near schools and in urban areas to name but a few. This is a promising first step, and proves that 1960s laws can indeed be amended and made fit for the modern day.

This is undoubtedly a good change and brings Austrian infrastructure planning closer to the 21st Century (thanks @spoe.at, who made this happen!). At the same time, it’s clear to see what’s been left out- increasing traffic fines to meet inflation, updating roadbuilding guidance to reflect modern…

Solidarity with those in Georgia, on the frontline of democracy!
I was in Tbilisi recently and was welcomed with Caucasian hospitality; truly the most friendly, peaceful, and proudly European protest I’ve ever attended.
Titushki / police agitation is a crime. The Hague waits.

€36 considering the budget crisis is insane, I want to see @spoe.at pushing to bring that fine to a proportion of the driver’s net wealth. At €36 per fine, that’s cheaper than a day’s (legal) parking in London!

My commute used to take me down the length of Burggasse. It was always hostile, but apparently the bus-taxi lane has a speed limit of 50kph! Switched to Zeltgasse instantly after finding this out…

I can only imagine how much it costs to maintain thousands of unused parking spaces, @wien.gv.at!

What’s particularly astonishing is just how many empty parking spots you see, particularly noticeable on Sunday nights, even in the city centre! Not only is parking far, far too cheap, but there is way too much of it!

And that’s not to minimise the ongoing genocide in Gaza, for which the Israeli government is fully to blame.
Message your representatives and tell them that meddling in our democracies will not stand. The Israeli government is starving millions and lying to you while they do it.

The only thing that propaganda and fake news from the Israeli government do is promote a climate of doubt and a ‘question everything’ culture which ultimately leads to anti-Semitism.The Israeli government threatens the safety of all Jews. Our shul becomes unsafe because of these videos.

Make no mistake, this is a war crime. It is also illegal content in much of Europe.
Report the ad and the channel it comes from if you see it, and do not engage- no likes, no comments, nothing. And tell the creators whose channel you saw it on to turn off AdSense for the Israeli Foreign Affairs Min.

Great news! Looking forward to a beautifully restored square by the end of the year! I am really glad to live in this city @wien.gv.at :)

Thanks for your quick reply, @wien.gv.at, and I’m glad to hear that it’s just temporary.
Is this paving by Mariahilferkirche also just temporary?
I ask because on Google Streetview the temporary asphalt layer has been there for at least 6 years.

Absolutely one of the most frustrating things about living in Wien. There’s no pain like swinging a suitcase around posts and poles, or stepping into the road between cars because you can’t pass- @wien.gv.at, this is such an easy thing to fix!

#ESC2026 in Wien will be incredible! Imagine if Burggasse is closed to all vehicle traffic for the Eurovision week… that would be an AMAZING turquoise carpet- and such a unique walk to the Stadthalle!
Please @ludwigmichael.bsky.social @spoewien.bsky.social make it happen!!

You might think it’s crazy but this principle, which planners call traffic evaporation, is proven even when there is no change in investment into alternate modes of transit.
Just like with induced demand, people will choose whatever means is the most convenient- be that by car, on foot, or transit.

If you’ve got the chance, head over to Yppenplatz and the Brunnenmarkt- might be refreshing to see a place where diversity is celebrated! (Plus a kebab for €4 isn’t bad…)

It is definitely clear that the city’s priorities are a bit off. Ludwig expending so much political capital to build a car-only tunnel instead of growing MA18 and creating a Wien-wide roadbuilding guideline is such a missed opportunity.

Then again, good progress being made in 8th… an active Bezirksrat makes for a good public space!
