Back to the Substack piece, this is completely valid (and why I keep fixating on the cops); let's see what happens when a protest goes down (will he tell the cops to stand down or fall back).
The most common excuse that I saw from people who normally reject electoralism was that we should “let people celebrate” Mamdani’s victory purely because it made zionists angry. Okay, everything makes zionists angry. In that sense, we should support Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Azealia Banks. This is an unserious and desperately reactive political barometer. I tweeted earlier, “Ziohran’s victory is objectively good not because working people’s lives will change but because it heightens the contradictions within the ruling class, and his inevitable betrayals will hopefully disillusion his base with working within the Democrats,” but I have been questioning this sentiment all day and I am not sure if I even fully agree with it. Mamdani’s betrayals are not really inevitable, they have already been made, nor are they really betrayals as much as fulfillments of his own class interests. Mamdani’s victory certainly will heighten contradictions, but does it do more to expose or obscure them? I worry it actually does more to obfuscate, and to feed people false hope in a system that will inevitably eat them alive. I worry it makes people think fascism is far down the line and not already here. Long here.

It's because police *are* the local militia of a city or state and that creates a perverse relationship of labor (and loyalty) that if they're cool with the cops, they kind of side-step even the commish (see Adams vs de Blasio, for example):

Even though New York City passed a relatively mild oversight law for the NYPD’s surveillance gear in 2020 that required the agency to disclose the purchase and deployment of new surveillance technologies, the department refused to comply. As a result, there is still no public accounting for the contracts, use policies, and deployments of many of the NYPD’s most invasive tools, including drones and robot dogs.

Patterned off London’s 1990s CCTV surveillance network, the “ring of steel” was initially developed under Kelly as an anti-terrorism surveillance system for Lower and Midtown Manhattan before being rebranded as the DAS and marketed to other police departments as a potential for-profit tool. Several dozen of the 17,000 cameras in New York City public housing developments were also linked through backdoor methods by the Eric Adams administration last summer with thousands more in the pipeline, according to NY Focus.

This section stuck out to me and I think there's a very dark parallel with Black America and Christianity here.
