Over the last year the new Government has actively been destroying the peatland it promised us in the manifesto it would protect - the delay on the agreed ban is inexplicable www.yppartnership.org.uk/blog/lyndon-...
Bogs not bags... | Yorkshire Peat Partnership
In 2011, the UK Government set a voluntary target for the use of peat in amateur horticulture to be phased out by 2020. In 2021, Defra launched a consultation on whether the use of peat in horticultur...

Labour have lost voters who care about nature to the Green Party - a majority of people in the UK care about restoring nature. It’s understandable as Labour lied about protecting nature up until the day before the election and have since thrown nature under the bus.
A poll of readers of my monthly newsletter (464 responses) shows that 44% of them say they voted #Labour in 2024 but only 7% would vote that way in a general election tomorrow.
Massive swing to the #Greens.

This plan to intercept boats crossing the channel is obviously a million times more logical than deterrent ideas like flying people to Rwanda www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... (personally I think the UK needs to process these people seeking asylum and stop small boats only because they are so dangerous)
France to start intercepting small boats in the Channel after pressure from UK
The change in policy comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote to President Emmanuel Macron.

Who would spray wild willow saplings with herbicide, also killing wild plants in the vicinity? I can't imagine why anyone would do this. It raises fresh concerns that weed killers are available to anyone in the UK without any checks or balances when professionals must be part of a licence database.
There are some people who seem to see the recovery of ecosystems in a deforested waste as a personal affront. It's about power, and different landscapes reflect the different ways in which power is distributed - or concentrated.
